Are you interested in vivarium, terrarium and aquarium scaping using MakeMake decorative concrete?

With decades of hands-on experience creating naturalistic environments and themed landscapes, MakeMake has become a trusted name in high-quality surface materials and creative solutions for professional use.

Through our sister company, Zooply, we have spent years developing and refining our products directly in the field — designing, building, and maintaining realistic habitats in leading zoological parks across Denmark and Sweden. This unique combination of craftsmanship and field-tested expertise ensures that every MakeMake product is not only visually convincing but also durable, practical, and safe for both animals and people.

Whether you are working on a zoo installation, terrarium, vivarium, aquarium, museum exhibit, playground, or theme park environment, MakeMake provides professional-grade materials and guidance to bring your creative vision to life.

To make a background in a aquarium, terrarium or vivarium you will need MakeMake Decorative concrete, fibers (if you which to add extra tensile strength to the first layer), Colour Fix and Colour Pigment. You can read more about the individual products below.

MakeMake Decorative Modelling Concrete

MakeMake Decorative Concrete is a ready-to-use, clay-like modelling concrete that only requires the addition of water. Once mixed, it has a soft, malleable texture similar to clay — but unlike clay, it doesn’t need firing. The material hardens naturally, creating strong, weather-resistant, and durable results.

Ideal for both creative DIY projects and professional use, this special concrete is three times stronger than standard concrete and perfect for building artificial rocks, sculptures, planters, tree structures, decorative figures, and themed environments.

How to use

  • Mix approx. 1 litre of water per 5 kg of concrete. Adjust as needed for a soft but non-sticky consistency.

  • Working time: about 45 minutes.

  • After approx. 4-8 hours, the surface can be carved or shaped further.

  • Fully cured after 7 days, weatherproof and frost-resistant.

Coverage

One 18 kg bag covers approx. 0.9 m² at 1 cm thickness. Usually you will work with at total thickness of 1-2 cm, but it varies according to the project. Always calculate a little more concrete than the measured area of your project, since the actual area will be bigger when you start adding structure.

For larger projects, multiple-bag sets are available.

Tips

  • Store dry and sealed.

  • Add MakeMake fibres (15 g per 18 kg) to increase tensile strength for large or complex

  • Coverage: Approx. 4-8 m² per litre, depending on surface texture.

  • All pigments (except metallics) can be mixed.

  • Let each layer dry fully before applying the next.
